On June 8, 2003 members of the Appomattox Chapter UDC and family members gathered at the Appomattox Community Center for an Iron Cross Memorial Service honoring Chancey Comedore Ferguson. Mr. Ferguson was born in Appomattox Va 11-15-1837 and died 6-30-1936. Mr. Ferguson joined the CSA on June 19, 1861 and served until paroled April, 1865. Mr. Ferguson was captured on Roanke Island, NC on 2-18-1862 and then paroled at Elizabeth City, NC on 2-21-1862.

Grave site of Chancey Comedore Ferguson on the Ferguson Farm in Appomattox County Virginia. The Iron Cross has been placed at the foot of the grave as a permanent reminder to everyone of his faithful and couragous service to the Confederacy.
